Sometimes you just need to get away. So why not make it a local event? Here in Arizona, we call those “Staycations”. We have such an array of resorts and hotels in Phoenix and Scottsdale that it is worth it to just give yourself a break and do a “Staycation AZ”. Recently I had a chance to get away to the Hotel Valley Ho, which is located in the area of Scottsdale known as Old Town. This mid-century, modern hotel is the perfect place to come for a relaxing holiday this Summer, so add it to your list of places to stay in Scottsdale!
Staycation AZ Design – Mid-Century Modern!
Designed by a student of Frank Lloyd Wright, Edward Varney, it first opened in 1956 as the Ramada Valley Ho. My, oh my, how times have changed, but with those changes, the theme of the resort has stayed the same – all revolving around its mid-century design. With its’ futuristic design, this hotel holds its own ground when it comes to competition with the other resorts in Scottsdale. The architect, Mr. Varney, set the hotel around a central pool lounge called the OH POOL and used extended horizontal lines for the hotel to be built around it. Another pool was also added called the OHasis Pool for more quiet time. It was here that I had a photo shoot to show off the nice weather that Arizona is known for.
Staycation in AZ with the A-listers!
And just so you understand how popular it was back in late December of 1957, Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood celebrated their wedding reception at the hotel. The list of Hollywood’s elite was a revolving door, as Frankie Avalon, Ingrid Bergman, Humphrey Bogart, Bing Crosby, Tony Curtis, Bette Davis, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Betty Grable, Cary Grant, Janet Leigh, Marilyn Monroe, and Roy Rogers were known to have stayed here. So can you imagine if these walls could talk? Modern-day celebs spotted here include Beyonce, Jay Z, and Taylor Swift, so the hotel still packs a punch with the A-listers.
Always Sunny in Scottsdale at the Iconic Hotel Valley Ho
With the addition of the vibrant “It’s Always Sunny in Scottsdale” wall mural at the OH Pool means that Hotel Valley Ho is definitely “hot”. Especially since it is now a stop for one of the most Instagrammable murals in the area. So might as well take a photo shot of yourself by the wall. That is what I did when I went on a tour with Joy Rides AZ, they that can show you all of the Instagrammable spots in Scottsdale by Golf Cart! So check them out X. Weekends by the OH POOL are filled with relaxing chaise lounges, cool and private cabana’s and plenty of handcrafted cocktails to go around. DJ’s spin the latest hot tunes on summer weekends.
Sweet Suites at Hotel Valley Ho
But sometimes you just need a bit of privacy and that is what you get with the fabulous suites at the Hotel Valley Ho. Living rooms decked out with the latest accessories. From floor-to-ceiling glass windows, private balconies, and modern comfort, Hotel Valley Ho has the coolest rooms and suites in town! I love the vibrant colors of the rooms. It was here I was able to get away, get a little work done, and relax… with good friend Andi of Misadventures of Andi.
We certainly enjoyed the day with our brunch at Zuzu’s and our time spent yakking about our favorite subject:

Such an awesome place to do a staycation - I am a HUGE fan of mid-century modern! The rooms are comfortable enough to just hang out it, and if you want some social vibes - the pool is hopping, the bar is fabulous and the brunch menu is to die for! Prime choice my friend!
