The Clarion Collection in Bergen, Norway
As soon as I walked in the door and saw the eclectic purple furniture with the flowing Calla Lillies, I knew I was going to like this place. Between the purple leather sofa, the tall, purple, and silver chairs, and the chandelier, it was a hip joint.
The decor at the Clarion Hotel in Bergen, Norway is sophisticated, cooler than cool, and oozed personal style. It is located in a vintage stone building dating back to the 1920s. The building has the architectural capacities of new baroque and classicism.
The coolest thing about this hotel is that each room has its own theme and personality. Some rooms were modern and sleek, while others had the feel of old-world elegance complete down to the columns and inlaid mural frescos.
Coming from Stavanger
After a morning flight from Stavanger, I was ready to get to my room and unload my belongings, but, alas, no room was ready. So I stashed away my belongings in the luggage closet and headed off to the city to explore. It was in a prime location, just across from the famous Bryggen Houses and the fish market, so it has the best location.
Once outside, I did notice the Radisson Blu across the roundabout and decided to peek my head inside for a look, since I have such a stash of Club Carlson points. It is definitely nice and worth a stay, but not a splurge like the Clarion Collection was. However, it shares the same amazing location, and if I came here again, I would consider staying there if the price/point usage was right.
Upon my late return, my room was ready and I couldn’t wait to open the door… to this lovely bedroom:
The Room was Perfect!
It was perfect with its lovely velvet brown comforters, deep brown leather headboard, and tiny purple chandeliers by the sitting window with flowing taffeta curtains. Such elegant decor made me wish to never leave the room!
Be sure to go on their Viewing Platform!
Something special about the hotel was that it has this amazing viewing platform. I asked for a private key and went to the penthouse level, where I climbed a narrow, spiral staircase to the top, creaked open the metal door, and “wa la” There was the most beautiful view in all of Bergen! With the lights shining in the harbor and the yachts bobbing up and down, I stood, mesmerized by the stunning view!
Overall I loved the vibe of this hotel and would happily stay there again, even though the service was lacking.
